The keyboard stopped working after about 6 months. Not only did it not respond to key presses, but it would randomly fire off the T key on turbo. So I couldn't use the laptop even with an external keyboard. I took it to Dell and they said they had to replace the keyboard and motherboard to repair it.

It worked for a few months then same thing happened again. With no hope that Dell can actually fix the problem, I had to open it up and disconnect the keyboard (and use an external keyboard) to continue using the laptop. The graphics card lasted less than 3 years before it failed and would randomly black out with no recourse but to restart the computer. Reformatting didn't help.

Alienware laptops are definitely not worth the $3000+. I got my Alienware M17x R4 over 2 years ago. I was in awe when I opened the box. Beautiful design with a sort of hard rubber feel, elegant black design and sexy lights. Lights everywhere and they are customizable and can even be programmed to react with certain games.

During this time I have had a number of issues. A constant distorted buzzing sound, faulty HDMI output and input, audio sometimes not coming on, faulty USBs and I've even had the Graphics card overheat and somehow blow up on me (no I didn't overclock anything). Read more ver were very good, they did not rest until my laptop was fixed, they have excellent customer service. As far as value for money.

I had the 32 gig of RAM upgrade and it can perform many activities without slowing down. Sometimes I forgot to exit a very demanding game and started playing another and only noticed when I ALT+Tabbed out and saw the tab for the game still open. The black chassis I have grown to absolutely despise.

It catches every single spec of dust. The air intake on the bottom is very small. For $3000 I really should have looked at the Aurora desktop, or another brand of gaming tower. If you can make your own (unlike me) I suggest you spend the same money and totally pimp one out with all the best stuff.

It will only cost you 1/2 the price. So in my opinion. The only good thing about Alienware are their chassis and the lights as well as customer support from Dell.

My less than 3 years old expensive Dell Alienware M17XR4 Laptop started failing with random blue screen of death, hang ups, freezes, sound card not working, laptop not starting after Dell logo screen. They did two onsite services and services were delayed by at least one to two weeks each, even though they sold me with a promise that it is a NBD onsite warranty service at the time of purchase. That did not fix the issue at all. It has failed completely and does not even boot up. I have spent countless hours with Dell on the phone, emails and wi.

Read more th their onsite technicians to no avail. Now Dell Australia and its executive Australia and New Zealand escalations team are outrightly refusing to provide any onsite service or any fair or reasonable resolution to the failing laptop(NBD onsite warranty expires on 12 June 2015 and laptop has been failing since at least 7 past weeks). They would not offer any phone technical support or onsite service.Dell, its products and services used to be good and they used to stand behind their products and services, but not anymore.

I cannot believe their audacity that they are refusing to honour their NBD onsite warranty for which they got paid. No wonder their customer service and product quality has gone downhill. Dell have non-existent customer service and next business day warranty service.

Alienware is an expensive product which is supposed to last at least a minimum of 3 years, but I guess Dell believes in getting the money for a service that it will not provide in the times of need.Once bitten twice shy. Never again Dell. Do not buy alienware! They are NOT how they are advertised, my model (M14 xR2) doesn't match up to the performance of any other gaming laptop, but don't stop reading here, it gets worse. After about 9 months of owning this laptop, the left hinge broke, meaning it was too fragile to open, close or take anywhere.

When I called Dell they claimed it was 'normal wear and tear' and demanded $200 to replace the entire LCD panel. I instead decided to take it to a computer repairman in my area, he opened it up and saw that the interior hinges were so. Read more flimsy that he claimed was bound to break. He welded the hinge back together for me for $20 and it was all good for 1 month.

Until the AC adapter broke meaning I couldn't charge my computer and that my performance in games was severely degraded as a result (even though I could only really run indie games or games that were at least 3 years old). Do NOT buy Alienware people say that they're customer support is great, they will help you with only what they see fit, spill a drink on it, sure we'll fix it, when the hinge inevitably breaks, you're on your own. If you want a gaming laptop, look elsewhere, Alienware is absolute tosh, don't even bother. Ok so I got one of these nearly new from gumtree. It had about 10 months left of warranty left on it and was a new replacement from Dell. I had a couple issues with my M17xR2.

Mainly with it not charging. Long story short they replaced have replaced it 3 times in total but now I have a Brand new M17xR3 with an upgraded cpu, better graphics card, better cpu and more RAM. Yes there was abit of to and throw with Dell 'engineers' coming to my work and them sending me replacements but now everything is working fine.

I want one that plays COD etc and this does it with ease.R3 is a lot lighter and better on battery. You can play games etc wherever you want. HDMI in as well for PS3 or xbox. I can run 2 games and 3 virtual machines with no issueExpensive, you could get a desktop with same specs for alot less (but without the wow factor).
